I really did see a painted lady!

He just loves the Joe Pye. He seems to hang out there all day. Third day this week, I think. Not that I'm tired of seeing him!

Beautiful, but that's an American Lady. Painted Ladies have more eyespots and no white spot on the wing.

Well, I was just looking at pictures of Painted Ladies and American Ladies, and had a hard time telling the difference, so it's not just you. :)

I always do double and triple takes with these two as well.
An easy way to remember is:
Painted Ladies have more eyes to paint.

Wow.
I wouldn't know xx Lady if they bit me on the nose, but I am enchanted with how those wings look like stained glass.
