This has to be one of the most beautiful butterflies. No other butterfly has a tail as long in my area. I take walks about three times a week in a local park and see them there. The park did a burn and afterwards a whole bunch of paw paws came up. Now there are lots of Zebra Swallowtails for me to see.
I have been very frustarated trying to attract them to my yard. I only live a few miles from the park where there are many. In this area I think they only use native paw paws for larval food. Some years ago I ordered some mail order paw paws from Georgia and they have grown nicely, but they haven't brought any of the ZS to my property. Three year ago or so I started collecting and growing the native paw paws, but they seem to grow only a few inches a year.
Anyone been successful at growing paw paws to attract the Zebra Swallowtails?
