This guy was little and boy did I have a hard time getting a picture.

I am going to guess a clouded sulphur on the first not a clue on the second.

The first one looks like a female cloudless sulphur - pretty picture!

The second one is a moth. It may be an eight-spotted forester, but I don't remember them having red bodies. Maybe it's some other, closely-related moth - hopefully, somebody else will know.

Giveaways for the cloudless sulphur (as opposed to clouded) are the large size and the row of black chevrons on the upper forewing border.

The moth is not the 8-spotted (the pictured moth has 10 spots), a noctuid, but rather it is an Orange-spotted Flower Moth, Syngamia florella, a Pyraustine, the wing shape differs from most noctuids.

Larry would you happen to know what are the host plants for the moth? I tried to look it up but no luck. Everything I am reading says they are native to Costa Rica.

Also known as Red-waisted Florella Moth. In the pyralid family.

A bugguide page said year-round in Florida and sighted in North Carolina, so there must be hostplants there somewhere.
Texas also, so likely all the Gulf Coast states.
