I'm pretty sure it's a yellow bear/Spilosoma virginica, which can be yellow or various shades of brown, like yours. Regular wooly bears are black. According to my information, yellow bears range throughout all of North America, so that would include you.

It will make a pretty, white moth - congratulations!

Sweet! Now that I have an ID I can see what it wants to eat many thanks.

Well here is an update. Last night I placed the cat in my garden bucket while I gathered food and put its house together. I came up from the backyard with a fist full of clover to find two very excited girls by my annual garden. They proceeded to tell me that they found a caterpillar stuck in my pail so they put it in the flowers so it could have something to eat. I thanked them and smiled.
