Hello,

My name is Robert, 48. I live in the Los Angeles area and have a son, Nicholas, 11, who is extremely interested in and also quite knowledgeable about butterflies. He has reared Monarchs, Anise Swallowtails, Pipevine Swallowtails, Giant Swallowtails Queens and Mourning Cloaks for two seasons now, and is familiar with the natural history and also basic taxonomy of butterflies in North America.

To learn more about butterflies, especially rearing, he would like to post some questions here. I hope you wont' mind answering some of them.

As an aside, Nicholas is also an accomplished photographer and will share some of his favorite shots here. Here is one

We'd love to answer Nicholas' questions, Robert! We're not professional entomologists (I hope I spelled that right) just amateurs, but we've raised a good many caterpillars into adulthood. And we'd certainly love to see his pictures - the monarch picture is gorgeous!!

Hi Robert, and welcome!! We would be more than excited to see your son's photographs and help him with any questions. I agree with Sherry. The Monarch photo is terrific. It's so awesome to learn of young people like Nicholas who are so interested in and inspired by nature. Obviously, we who come together here share a passion for all Lepidoptera.
