Scarlet Bodied Wasp Moth

One of the many casualties of Hurricane Katrina in this area were the scarlet-bodied wasp moths, that I used to see regularly in the late summer/fall. Late yesterday evening when it was practically dark, I was out in the garden and was thrilled to see one nectaring on my Ellen's Blue butterfly bush. It was so late my flash was going off, and I couldn't get a good, clear picture of it. Maybe today I'll see it again and can get a picture that shows off its vivid colors. In the meantime, this one will have to do -

According to what I've read, Mikania scandens/climbing hempweed, a vine in the aster family, is supposed to be the host plant. I've seen some growing near my 'meadow' so I'll certainly be checking it out for caterpillars. I'd LOVE to find one!
