Anybody want pawpaw seeds?

Posted by catman529 6b (My Page) on

I've got a ziploc bag full of pawpaw seeds, for anyone who wants to try and grow some for ZST's. Email me at solarballoons @ gmail . com (spaced to conceal from spam bots). I'll send 10-15 seeds each to anyone who is interested. They all will be kept in sealed ziploc bags so they don't dry out. They haven not been stratified yet so planting them this fall would be good.

If anyone is interested, email me, I won't charge for shipping or anything. I harvested these all from patches within a 3-mile radius of my house near Franklin, TN.

RE: Anybody want pawpaw seeds?

I would love some. However, do you know what type they are. I know only certain types that will grow in my area. If they will, I would do a happy dance to get some.

Would like to try growing them here. We don't get that swallowtail here but I can always hope!!! Got about 320 butterfly species so one more is always welcomed!!! Email on the way :o)

That is very generous of you! I would love some and will email you a little later today. The Zebra Swallowtail is my favorite butterfly, and I hope to get some here someday. I've been told that there's a large population of them in southern PA. I'm in central PA and intend to entice some up here with Paw Paw trees. Thank you for your offer!

catman,

It may be my computer, but I tried your spaced solarballoons e-mail address and couldn't make it work. would you use this as my request-if the offer is still open?

catman,

I really appreciate your kind offer and would like some pawpaw seeds if you have any left.

Catman
I received the pawpaw seeds in yesterdays mail safe and sound. Thank you so much! I've been reading on the web to find the best way to start them from seed.

I typed a response yesterday to say that I had received mine as well but guess I must not have submitted it. Thanks so much! Those babies are sure big!

Do you think I should refrigerate mine before planting since it is so hot here in Florida? Maybe wait a couple months before planting? Any suggestions?

Catman - My pawpaw seeds are sprouting! I didn't realize they take so long to germinate so I had just about given up on them. I have four so far. Wanted to let you know and thank you again for sending me seeds.

I kept mine in the frig in a ziplock with a moist paper towel until early February (I think). Then I sowed them outside in two liter bottles so they would have room for their tap root.

I came across a couple sites that said not to let the seeds freeze but mine did. My frig thermostat messed up and everything in it froze solid two different times.

I'm debating whether to plant them out this fall or try to keep them over winter in pots. I know they don't transplant well.

Catman - I wanted them mostly for zebra swallowtails but I'm curious if the pawpaws are decent for eating as well.

Thanks again for the seeds. : )
