Speaking of Gulf Frits...

I was focused on the show and clicking away, when I heard a hummer arrive on the scene.

She briefly hovered above, a few feet away, deciding which bunch of flowers to snack on.

Noticing that her eyes had locked on to a patch to my left, ;-)

I turned and quickly focused there.

In an instant, she zipped in, took a sip and then disappeared.

This GF was absolutely brilliant, unusually so (not enhanced / manipulated)

Misssherry, as I recall once wrote that newly emerged males often appear this way.

The plant is Liatris tenuis (Gulf blazing star), and quite the crowd pleaser...it seems to attract "everything."

Thankfully it just volunteers, as does the L.pycnostachya.

The pycno blooms / show ended 30-40 days ago, but the tenuis is in it's prime right now.

I shot some video too, if I can edit it to manageable clips/size I'll post the link in a day or two.
