Have had this happen before--follow any frass that you see. They usually go up too. Have found one between the window and the window blinds. Another one was under a table and another one under a ledge. With one, I found the skin, so keep any eye out for anything like that--then look up. :)

Well, had a caterpillar #2, who was going to build its chrysalis on the ladder in the hamper, seemed to just stop after he had spun his girdle and anchored his tail. I had to pull huge Caterpillar (#3) off of this poor guy, I was afraid he was going to eat him. So I removed Caterpillar #2, and his ladder from hamper and put him propped up in a vase. Caterpillar #3, was in the hamper and who I assume is on the loose, and the one who tried to eat #2, no doubt got out of the hamper. Now the ladder has a woodsy looking chrysalis on it. Could it be that Caterpillar #3 devoured Caterpillar #2 and then built its chrysalis? It seems like #2 just got stuck pre-chrysalis.

So far... No Frass, and it was Big!

I had a GST cat attach himself to another GST crysalis that eclosed successfully but the one he attached to...didn't make it out! If I see a cat doing this again...I'll move it! Good Luck!

Two more are making moves to find the right place to build a chrysalis. Busy night. Never did find any signs of escapee.

One of the 2 mentioned last night made a break for it, under the edge of the hamper. Oh well...guess I'll find butterflies clinging the the living room sheer drapes in about 19 days!
;-) other caterpillar is behaving itself and is attached to a branch, so clearly not going anywhere.

I'm near Houston, TX. Do I need to overwinter these? Uh oh... They should be hatching in the next week.

Came home today and escapee #2 was playing "Where's Waldo?". I predicted one of them would wind up on the dining room's sheer drapes. He was captured (gently) and released. He was so strong... He flew high and quickly out of sight. Yay... But a little sad!
