So far as nectar plants are concerned, here in Minnesota, the mint family really stands out - spearmint, hyssop, basil, catnip, bee balm, oregano, thyme, etc. - all are good nectar plants.

The sages/salvias are also deer resistant and make good nectar plants. Cloudless sulphurs especially like any red salvia, and long-tailed skippers love my S. 'Phyllis Fancy'! I find moth caterpillars wrapped up in leaves of mine all the time, unfortunately, no butterflies use salvias as host plants.

You can also put Agastaches and Catmint high on that list as well. Both are deer/rabbit/Japanese Beetle resistant and provide
loads of nectar.
