I'm no expert but I currently have at least 25 monarch chrysalises I'm waiting to eclose...I think that once they turn dark...they should eclose in a day or so...if it doesn't, it's not viable.

The brownish color doesn't look promising. It can't hurt to keep it and see how things progress.

It actually can hurt if some wasps come out of it.

No butterfly is coming out of there but if you really don't want to give up on it, I'd put it in a container that will hold any other insects that come out of the chrysalis. Wasps are a long shot. Flies would be more likely but nothing is probably the most likely.

I've ended up with a few unexpected parasitoids flying around my house over the years.

Had flies exit a pre-pupal BST this year. I don't remember ever having a BST with parasitoids before. Even more surprising was they were the adult flies. I'm used to maggots pupating outside of the caterpillar.
