My Latest Monarch Caterpillar ever

caterwallin

If I hadn't taken some cuttings from my Tropical Milkweed plants, I'd never have known that a Monarch came by here late and late at least one egg. I have the cuttings in our laundry room in some vases of water and was turning them today and noticed this teeny little cat when I was smashing aphids. I almost squashed it, but maybe the human thing to do would be that or freeze it, although I doubt I can bring myself to do either one. I kind of don't like that idea of putting it outside because we'll soon have our first frost probably. It would be an issue amongst family members if I'd keep it inside to live out its life, so with the given options, I guess its future isn't looking too bright. :( I hate finding them late in the year and this is the very latest that I've ever found any. I've released in October other years (and have a few left this year yet actually) but have never raised any that late.
