Fab day!

I was sitting out in the backyard this afternoon, working on my math website (yes, I've been working on THAT one but no my Monarch one...sorry! school comes first) and I had nothing but butterflies flitting about. It was so nice...the sun was out although I was under my umbrella, and there were all these Monarchs (yes, can you believe it?) all over the place, ovipositing and dancing and having fun. I saw a Giant Swallowtail (Heraclides cresphontes) and thought, "I released a male so I doubt this is a female." WRONG! I actually found three eggs on my Rue! The Gulf Fritillaries (Agraulis vanillae) were around although I didn't look for any eggs. Even the Cabbage Whites (Pieris rapae)...It was hard to work because I kept wanting to watch all the fluttering beauties. It is amazing to think that here it is, toward the end of October, and there's all this butterfly action going on. Just a few weeks ago it was SO cold that I was wearing tights and sweaters! This week it has been so gorgeous and warm...ahh...makes me feel as if fall isn't here just yet. ;)

Oh, and if you want to visit my math site, you will crack up over the URL as I had to give it a name that went with my bug-gy-ness.

Here is a link that might be useful: Math Bugs Me!

That's what my backyard has been like for the last couple of days. I guess it is their last hooray before winter. I know I have certainly enjoyed it!

Even here in Oklahoma, the butterflies have been visiting the garden! I'm amazed that they are still around after our cold, wet weather earlier this month. I have Pipevines, Painted Ladies, Sulfurs, Buckeyes, and a stray Monarch (yes, one yesterday) to mention a few. I love it!

The GF I had that has been a chrysalis for well over a month finally eclosed 2 days ago. He stayed quiet on his "perch" until late yesterday so I moved him to a Cosmos bloom where he immediate uncoiled his probiscus and began to nectar. Must have needed some energy food! I still have 3 big old CS chrysalises and all those Buckeye chrysalises, too!

Glad you guys are seeing lots of activity!

CalSherry - are you finding a heavier work load with the older kids than the younger? Kenna is loving school this year. Only 17 in her class which is just perfect! They are learning about fractions now. Just had the carnival this weekend--so fun. Teacher wants me to come talk about raising butterflies this next spring. I found out there is a milkweed patch just behind the fence and the kids found lots of Monarch cats this summer. We raised a few for them and took them back to the kids once they pupated so they could see them eclose.

Sandy, I can't believe I've had so many late cats this year with all the cold temps we are having.
