I love this time of year because you never know what might show up in your backyard. This afternoon, I caught sight of a different moth nectaring on the Turk's cap. I was able to get some photos and send them to our Oklahoma Lep person. I spent quite some time on Bugguide trying to find the id. I knew it was in the Sphingidae family (Sphinx) but, there are a lot of moths in that family. Here are photos of the Titan Sphinx, which turns out to be a county record, and the 5th one sighted in Oklahoma. I used sports action to catch the wings, as this moth really moves--just like a hummer.
