Summer photo Monarch on Asclepias

There is a nice Asclepias incarnata pulchra growing near my workplace. I saw this Monarch using one day in August. I wanted to get a closer look to see if it was laying eggs when I realized there was more going on....

Took me a little while! That is great! Whenever I see this position on a butterfly, I know it means doom.

I was finding perfect individual wings in the butterfly house this summer. All I had to do was look up and find the assailant. Apparently mom had laid eggs in the house sometime and all the wee ones grew up to a nice fat size capable of eating adult butterflies. Took us a while to find them all.

That camouflage is incredible. Even when you know it's there, it's still hard to separate out from the surroundings. That Asclepias is in beautiful shape. Thanks for sharing.
