Awesome!! So, do your giant swallowtails eclose throughout the "winter" months since you live in Florida? Just wondering what to expect since the temps during our winters here in Louisiana are so inconsistent. I wish there was some way to make sure none of my gst pupa decide to eclose during one of our winter warm spells, if they do, is it best to go ahead and release them anyway, even if the temps are expected to get low in the following days? Hopefully they will all stay put until spring, and won't get the urge to eclose if it is the "wrong" time for them to. So, was your gst a male or female? And, what do you feed your GSTs seeing as how you probably have a variety of choices for gst host plants there in florida. I am going to Miami in 3 weeks, hoping to find some host plants while I am there that I can bring back with me, also looking forward to visiting Butterfly World while I am there!! Congrats on your GST butterfly!!

Winter? Not much of that here and all types eclose all year, although not as many are laying eggs during the "winter."
I see that you are in a difficult spot, since you do have some cold weather. But yeah I'd just let 'em do what they are programmed to do, so if they eclose just let them go and wish them well. Keeping them captive is no good any way you look at it.
Today I had a female, it is cool to be able to tell. I'll post pics of one of each.
I have not been to Butterfly World yet but I understand it is amazing. Have a good trip.

Oh and as for the nectar, they seem to like the lantana, blue porterweed, and mexican sunflower. They also like some of the flowering trees (dwarf poinciana, hong kong orchid) when they are in bloom. I don't think they are very picky.

Thanks for the info on the nectar plants! the one i released this morning, flew up onto the fence and a bird flew up a split second later, think it was a mockingbird, not sure if they eat insects and butterflies but I started yelling just in case, lol. The gst flew away and i saw her land on some "goldenrod" i think is the name, a weed that grows behind our fence near a creek, not sure if she was nectaring or not but I saw her there for a while, I was just glad she got off without a bird getting her first. I am so afraid a bird is going to get one right after i release it, I have TONS of bluejays in my yard, tons, but usually they make so much noise I know where not to release the butterfly, so far so good!
