 o
Monarch issue

Ok to some it may not be an issue but to me it is. I went over to my grandmother's house yesterday and found this monarch butterfly sitting on the ground in the rain. It was alive and still is alive in the butterfly cage. I had some left over humming bird food mix so I mixed some of that up and put it in there didn't see it touch it at all. It flutters around in the cage sometimes but it doesn't get very far. I have tried for most of today to release it. when I saw it try to fly away it fell to the ground and had trouble getting back up. So I brought it back inside in the butterfly cage and it is just standing at the top of the cage like it did for most of yesterday. Anyone tell me what I can do with this poor little one. Though it isn't that little but I would like to try to atleast make sure it gets a fighting chance. I already tried to call the Botanical Gardens but all of the gardeners had left.

I'm guessing it may have reached the end of it's short two month life span.

mom looked up more information and said that since it is below 60 it can't fly and let alone it is raining outside so it can't fly because of that too. so I guess I will be trying to figure out what I can do with it until it gets warm enough for it to leave or something.

I just released it. I called the Botanical Gardens again and it just needed some sunlight and heat to get its strength back. So it is off doing butterfly things now.

Sounds like you took good care of that butterfly!
