are the antennae feathered or clubbed? looks like a member of the skipper family.

It is a moth; the antennae are too long for a skipper and are threadlike, not feathered, clubbed, or hooked.

The underwings do resemble some skippers.

If you part the wings and take a photo of them from the topside, I may be able to identify it.

Using the Insect forum may be more suitable for this item.

You need to at least get that moth IDed to family level before you can start making statements about the antennae indicating whether it is a female or male. There are many families that never have feathery antennae.

The link below has 4 sphinx moths of the same species. Both sexes are represented. These are big moths so the antennae are easy to see. You cannot sex them by their antennae.

Thanks for opening the wings. This is a Noctuoid moth in the genus Mocis, most likely Mocis latipes commonly known as small mocis moth or striped grass looper.

It could be a different species in the Mocis genus.

If lapites, it may be a male as females are more yellow or red.

Most Mocis are very common in Florida.
