Rooting A. Digitata and C. Monstruosa cuttings

Hi -

Has anyone ever rooted Adansonia Digitata and Commiphora Monstruosa cuttings? If it is possible, how should I proceed? I removed a few branches from mine last night, and thought it might be fun to give it a try.

Thanks!

I've done Commiphora, very easy. a little warmth and moisture is all you need. Mine have rooted in 2-4wks. Never tried Adansonia but a friend has rooted logs of 8-12in diameter! it took almost 18months! with bottom heat of 70F, evening temps of 50 and days into the 90s.

Caudex -

Standard succulent soil mix (mine is coir, coarse sand, pumice...mostly drainage)? Moisture, but let it dry out between waterings, or keep evenly moist? Temps into the 90s are not achievable right now - I can get the mid 80s near my HPS light, though...

Thanks.

Your mix and temps sound fine and evenly moist is best. Old wood will take a bit longer to root, 1st years growth strikes the fastest.

Hi again -

should have asked earlier - should I keep them out of the soil for a while to get them to callous over, or just stick'em in there today?

Dry a day or two, not long for for under 1/4" diameter.
