Hello Harry. Have you tried bubble wrap as an insulating layer inside the glass 'a la double glazing'? I use it yearly and it's amazing at the degrees it can raise the temp even on a frosty but sunny wintry day. It would give you a boost to the growing season for sure and give extra warmth to any overwintering plants you protect. Just a thought :) Pic taken a few years ago.... 'all tucked up for winter'
There will a lot of Echeveria and familycuttings in there. Yes, claypots. I prefer plastic because I think plants grow better in it, but I like the sight of claypots better. So I use them both.
Greenclaws: yes I tried once. The winter of that year was very heavy (for here that is); so the plants ended in the house anyway. I did not repeat the bubble plastic.
