Newbie needs a hand

Hi Guys!

I posted a couple of weeks ago hoping to get an ID on, what I found out was, a crassula hobbit.

I went back to the garden centre today and all of their cacti's and succulents are looking very sad indeed. Cacti with no needles, some very brown and shrivelled. I desperately wanted another one though so I picked up a Crassula Arborescens.

It looks fairly okay. However, I wanted some advice on how best to care for him now he's found his forever home.
Towards the base of the plant were some very shrivelled leaves that just fell off to the touch. As I go up the plant the leaves go from really soft and pliant towards the bottom, to as firm as I would expect at the top.
If it's the same plant that I saw a couple of weeks ago (which seems probable given the lack of change to the table and the reduced sign) then they've received no natural light at all. Could this be contributing to the condition?

Any advice on how to make sure he gets a good start would be great :D

Thanks!

p.s. sorry for calling 'it' a 'he' haha.
