Cold, Forgotten Succulents

Confession: I'm a plant killer. I bought LOTS of succulents last spring because they are easy to care for. I had them potted outdoors (several pots, a hundred or so plants) and they were GORGEOUS in the summer and fall. Husband took some to the shed and some to the basement for our North Carolina foothills winter to keep them out of the elements even if not warm. Of the ones in the shed, some are still hanging on but some are just... shriveled. The others taken to the basement, where our woodstove is, I believe have been all but dehydrated. Out of sight, out of mind, and I completely forgot to water them because it was such a rare thing to have to do anyway. Is there any chance to save these babies? Do they come back in the spring after dying in the winter? How does this work? I'm hoping to redeem myself here, but I'm obviously a far cry from a cactus/succulent expert. Help!
