Actually, I've always assumed that my Crassula arborescens 'Silver Dollar Jade' was just prone to those scarred, ugly patches on the older leaves. I've tried scratching to no avail.

Welcome, Hannah. That is NOT scale as Josh has said. And as he has said, 'Silver Dollar' seems to get brown patches on older leaves. I often wonder if it is leaf edema or some sort of water damage.

I'd suggest edema, which is a result of an imbalance of temperature/humidity/light/available moisture and maybe even daylength. Some plants are more susceptible and those are the ones we really have to be sensitive to.

Ahhh thanks everybody! Glad its not scale as I was confused as to why it didn't look like any picture I could find. This little guy was given to me by a friend so hopefully he'll perk up on my sunny windowsill and with the better soil mix I've put him in. I wonder if I could pick someone's brain as to how I can upload pictures of my succulents for my journal? I am keen to join in more forum chats and broaden my profile, I am fascinated to the point of adoration with all the different succulents and looking forward to discussions with likeminded others.
