Cactus ID for proper care

Paraphoe

Hey all,

Just bought a columnar cactus this weekend for my apartment. I really love the look and I want to make sure I properly care for it. Unfortunately they didn't have it ID'd at the nursery, but they told me to just water it weekly in standard potting soil. This seemed a little wonky to me, so I bought cactus potting mix and added some Perlite and stones at the base of the pot for drainage. I just want to positively ID it for certain so I can make sure to adhere to the right watering schedule so I don't hurt it and it can grow. The taller the better!

Any help on the exact type of cactus would be awesome. I've attached a picture. I was thinking "San Pedro" or "Mexican fence post" but I think mine has more spines than those.

If it helps, each of the 3 have 7 ribs.

Thanks in advance!

Jason
