Aloe Polyphylla does not offset. It is usually crossed with another Aloe for pollination purposes and so should be shown as Aloe polyphylla X. The Aloe used may be showing dominance and may not resemble A. polyphylla. Or maybe an A. polyphylla that does pup now. Anyway, remove the offset when ever you want. If you want to save it, give it a little time to develop then pot up in it's own pot.

Well, that's disappointing. My plants are just about a year old, so not a lot of time has been spent on them. I was thinking about ordering more seeds--now it's a sure thing.

I'm going to quiz the seller a little, since I have the impression that his seeds are from his own plants, so he must have at least two a.p.'s. I also need to know what the chances are of open pollination if he has other aloes around.

Is there anything else I should ask?

Cold condition the seeds before germinating. 'Stratification', make sure they did this. Also how many did germinate out of the seeds you got. Myself, I ordered 10 from China and got only 3 to germinate. Then reordered from California, 20 seeds and only 4 germinated. Paper with seeds said it takes 8 months for germinating. Mine in about a week. Then nothing. This is the worse ratio for me growing seeds. I have much better luck than that.
