I only have a couple Huernia's, and although I have not killed them they aren't exactly thriving :o( I just wanted to give you a thumbs up on your gorgeous plant! So lovely!!

I managed to nearly kill mine by underwatering it and then overwatering it and so I disassembled it and stuck each of the branches in a peat pot. Now they're putting out active growth and I'm still not sure they have roots yet. These plants are confusing.

Not sure a peat pot is a good thing for these plants. They're prone to rot from the start, that's often how they grow, rotting off the older portions while growing the new. Am guessing that peat will harden off, become difficult to re-wet & the branch will rot.

Given their ease of rotting, fast draining mix is crucial, am guessing peat will not do the trick. I'd suggest a C&S mix amended w/ either 40% perlite or pumice.

No, the POT is made of peat. The actual substrate is just... bark and perlite I think.

As for media, mine is in a mix of peat moss and large grade perlite and has been growing happily for a couple years now. When watering ... particularly this time of year ... I don't soak it. The water actually drains through quite quickly. Much to my amusement, it has actually sent roots down into the cache "basin" I have under the pot. As a result, those particular roots are usually wet most of the time.
