Why is my aloe vera breaking apart?

Hi everyone,

I bought an aloe vera plant from a garden center a few months ago. It's in a sunny place and I've been watering it sparingly, about twice a month.

However the tip of the leaves keep drying out and worse, the large leaves just keep breaking! They get a soft spot in the middle then kink. That spot rots away and part of the leaf just drops off.

I tried watering more frequently but it didn't help. I put pictures here so you can see what I mean:

More distinct pictures would help, but I'd suggest that your soil isn't good for the plant. Watering it more was the wrong thing to do, but many of us do / have done that in an effort to remedy a problem. Your soil should be porous, and usually you can easily achieve that but using regular cactus soil (with the larger chunks of bark removed) and cut it with 50% perlite. Depot it and give us a picture of the soil it's in and the condition of the roots (they should be yellow if they're healthy).
