Will this aloe recover or should Ijust start over?

This poor, abused aloe has been with me for years, but I've mostly treated it badly. It's in desperate need of repotting, but I think I've been over watering it to compensate (this is the only succulent I grow). I've noticed it has these ugly brown spots on it. Should I bother repotting it, or should I just get a new plant? Any other advice for me?

Repot it. It's not that bad looking. Maybe put it in a clay pot if you want to water it so much.

Your plant looks like it is in a heavy organic soil. This is usually the source of problems with succulents. I suggest repotting, as zackey said, and using a more porous soil. At least mix a 50/50 perlite to soil mix.

I have become a big proponent of gritty mixes for my succulents. Even when I PIG my plants I dig a large hole and fill it with a gritty mix. I live in an area that gets a lot of rain and is very humid all year long. This helps me avoid problems with overwatering.

I think your plant will be fine with a repot and a more porous soil. Like zackey said, it doesn't look that bad. This plant will enjoy having a lot of sunlight.
