Help starting a garden

Hi everyone. I am brand new in my interest with succulents. I saw a beautiful display at a garden center with succulents and sedums and it inspired me and I think I can do something with a little patch of garden next to my entrance. When I spoke to the garden lady she said that these plants were hardy to our zone and that they spread. I'm hoping for some guidance/experience stories from you.

I'm zone 7 (MD), the soil is garden soil/ miracle grow combo. The garden is right next to the corner of the house so it gets a sharp angle of sun/ shade. The picture is my inspiration and the second pic is from a pinterest link and is how I would like to adapt it for my outdoor garden.

Please! Suggestions for plants (I like hens n chiks-- so cute! And of course, I'd get what' in the planter) and tips would be appreciated! Thanks!!

Wow! did you say NEW!.. Boy that is one Cracked pot! That looks Stunning. A very good display of turning Lemons into Lemenade. OH wait I had to go back and read it it said Help starting a garden, Excellent job can you please post more of your projects on here please that is inspireing especially for those of us who have many Cracked pots

I'd love to take credit for that but that project is from the local nursery. THAT is what inspired me to work with succulents. Ins't it fabulous? The person who designed it is an artist that happens to work at the nursery.

I never (and all of you are going to say duh) knew how beautiful and interesting succulents were. My garden is about 3x5 feet and I'd like to incorporate some of those plants. :)
