I cannot belieeeeve you found that Agave at a garage sale for $1. I'd kill for that plant. Wow!

teatree you should have seen it before I cleaned it up. It was in a pot twice that size, half of the plant was nothing but dead leaves. It also was in a soil that was mostly sand. They had $3 on it, but I asked if they would take any less since it looked like it was dying. : )

I knew what it was from the beginning, but I just couldn't resist asking.

I believe the first plant is going by Euphorbia bicompacta v. rubra these days. Originally, I knew it as Synadenium grantii f. rubra. Then it changed to Synadenium compactum v. rubrum. You can find images & info under any of these names. :)

I'm not quite sure what to make of the second one. Can you post a pic if/when a bloom opens? Maybe closer look at the spines too?

Third, as Howard said looks to be Crassula falcata, or hybrid.

Forth looks like it got splashed with something. Do those spots wash off the lower leaves? I looks like Aloe 'Black Beauty' to me, unless that splotchy stuff does not come off, in which case...I don't know!

Fifth, possibly Nyctocereus serpentinus.

Last, you already know: Agave victoriae-reginae

2nd is Echinocereus / Wilcoxia schmollii ?

Careful of the Synadenium's / Euphorbia's sap - it can burn, depending on one's sensitivity.

And I agree with Colleen - that's a score of an agave.

The white spots are from hard water. It is a problem here in texas but they do wash off.

Rosemarie I will try to get some better pictures tomorrow. While I was out there today it looked like that bloom would be opening sometime the next day or two. I am using my camera phone but I think I can get a closer picture of the thorns.
