I LOVE Echinocereus blooms, Zeck!! I might have that one (or used to). Will check for name later.
I checked. It looks like E. reichenbachii v albertii. See if that looks like a match for you. =)

Always wondered how that skinny cactus could make those spectacular booms, Nil. =)

I just got this and it was labelled as a Mammelaria sp;...I don't think so . I think it is a Echinocereus pectinatus. Not 100% sure but when the buds open I will be more sure.

I think this little tike is going to give it its best. I will be back when it blossoms.

Ledebouria socialis, Silver Squill. It's hard to get a clear shot of the teeny blooms, but they are so delicate I had to share!

Beautiful Echinocereus, Mara! Can't wait to see its blooms! Please come back & post when it does. Cute little Gymnocalycium too!

What a show to come on that E. shaviana stem, Rina! Pretty! Your E. 'Topsy Turvy' blooms aren't blasted apart, as it seemed mine used to do all the time. Lovely!

I love the teeny tiny blooms of Ledebouria, FrugalFanny. I know what you mean about hard to get pix, as I've tried many times. They are cute!

They look happy! Odd seeing them in the ground. That's something I couldn't even dream of doing here! Mine get mad if I even put them too close to a cold window in the winter.

  • nil13

Our climate here is more like the western cape, but our soil is 86% sand and they are fairly sheltered so they don't seem to mind the winter water. Not that we have had much this year.

Yes, truly. The glomerata is fantastic.

The clouds grew heavy dark and ominous just as my second variety of Echinocereus triglochidiatus bloomed and created fire in the grey end of day. I swear to god , I did not step on the color. This is what can happen to oranges on a grey day when the light is right. And then stick the complimentary color blue as a background and one has some oppositional electricity happening popping the orange even more.

flowers are not that large on the Gasteria glomerata... just closer to the camera lens. It is one of the nicer Gasteria blooms, though. That plant is about 5 years old, maybe 6. Likes being in a pot way more than in the garden

Hey, Guys, April is not over with yet. Things are just cranking up here. I can't keep up with things. Both varieties of Opuntia macrocentras opened up. They seemed to time their opening to the magic hour of sunset , so they were gloriously backlit. I love what light does to how one sees things.

Gasteria glomerata (from Ryan or Colleen, sorry I don't remember - never was good with an accession record, though it'd be helpful). Smallest pure Gasteria, I think, but delightful flowers.

An opuntia hybrid has been wearing this fat fat bud for days and it opened today. This is the first time this plant has ever bloomed. I really do need to get it in the ground. It is VERY cold hardy.

What a gift to me and my camera. My Camera was drooling. Images will embiggen if you click on them

Beautiful blooms, everyone! I especially like all the cactus flowers I never get to see. Jeffe, yes that's a Ventura-grown glomerata you have... you can always tell by the backside.
Well, I've got one that's a first time bloomer for me. Behold! Cyanotis somaliensis! This flower only lasted for one day! I think what happened is that it turned into a fairy and flew away.

It is STILL april, barely but I had some rebutias chime in with their very first blooms (for me ) today. I caught my Rebotia albapilosa with dew on it , not quite opened up iin the early morning and had to go back for a full open shot. I had my Rebtia krainziana AKA R. marsoneri 'Krainziana'. I think that is what it is. I will have to post another shot in MAY when it gets hidden by flowers (Is posting the same plant in two months against the rules?)

Fabulous shots of bloomer beauties, everyone! Good show!!

I'll have to save mine for the May bloomer post, as I've too much on my plate at the moment.

Thoroughly enjoyed each & every pic you all have posted! Thanks a bunch!!

[Question for Mara, in the pic of Pachyveria 'Blue Pearl'-which plant in the pic is that one? The one flowering?]

  • wantonamara Z8 CenTex

That is a mess of plants. LOL. The lavendar purple one (no ID) is getting ready to bloom and so is the E. mazarene. AH,"I'll be back".The P. "blue pearl" is in the back with the slenderER leaves (all things relative) in the back and it is the one that is blooming. IT has the leaves with a bit of aqua green at the base, lavender blue gray middle, and slightly rosy tips . It is pretty rangy right now and did not take a good picture ( I am so vain) and right after it is done blooming it gets chopped back.

Hey guys! Sorry it took me a few days to get back here.

Mara, thanks - I went and took another photo of the Cyanotis. I love the Rebutia krainziana. Stop trying to make me love cacti, I don't have room!
    Anyhow, here's the photo.

Hmmmm... looks like Tradescantia is a synonym and one I've actually heard before, though I don't grow any others. Thanks Mara!
