| This is a pretty little cactus that came with no name of course. I have no idea why it is sideways in the pot. I will repot it after it finishes blooming.
I think it is an Echinopsis mammillosa. Am I close? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The blooms are open during the day and close at night and last at least 4 days. |

| It's a Gymnocalycium sp. you can tell by the "bare" flowers and the pseudo-tubercles. |
|
| Thanks so much for replying. Will you please educate me? What are bare flowers and pseudo-tubercles? This is my first excursion into real cactus. pam |
|
| Ok, I have figured out the bare flowers but not the pseudo-tubercles. I am thinking it might be damsii. What do you think. The flower has zero pink anywhere and the pollen stamens are ivory not yellow. |

| pseudo=like tubercles are those things you find on cacti like Mammillarias that "replace" the ribs, on Gymnos it's evident that there are little ridges between the areoles (places everything from a cactus grows from), also how the areoles themselves seem a bit raised from this, this forms really inconspicuous (in the case of a smaller Gymno like yours) tubercle-like areas on the plant (especially near the growth point) That's why it's called a pseudo-tubercle. |

| Thanks, I will have to inspect my cactus again. I was trying to pay attention to how many spines grew out of each tubercle not the tubercle itself. |
