| WOW! Purple seems to be a popular color. This opened today and I am thrilled because I was able to get this little guy through a winter without it dying on me! Thanks for looking.

| Is that a flower in a flower? And what is it doing there? I love the chubby leaves. And those thorns/spikes/needles at the tips of the leaves look like they gave their all to make that great flower. Now they seem to just wither away and fall off. A curious little plant. Penny |

| Penny, I think you're looking at/describing the female portion of the flower; the pistal. The prominent end is called the "stigma". There is only one flower in the picture. The stamen, male portion of the flower, is seen deeper in the flower. The yellow in the center are the "anthers" at the end of the "filaments". |
