That's not a Lithops, but a Pleiospilos. It's common name is 'Split Rock.' Lithops and Pleiospilos are in the same Family, so they are somewhat related. Pleiospilos are known to bloom in early Spring after their dormancy period whereas Lithops are known to bloom in Autumn.

Thanks! I did not realize that they were different plants. I did have some real Lithops, but they got destroyed in a rare hail storm a couple of years ago. The hail was only pea sized, but it was hard enough to shred the small plants. The Pleiospilos survived, however, possibly because they are larger or maybe just tougher.

I'll have to look again and see if I have any surviving Lithos plants, and if not, I will try to replace them. They occasionally have them at the Marina Del Rey Garden Center.

That's the joy of coming to GW, you learn something new sometimes! I'm still a novice myself. I tend to steer more toward Cacti than succulents though. Not sure why, getting stabbed is not my cup of tea lol.

I believe the "category" for Lithops and 'Split Rocks' is Mesembs. Lithops are commonly known as 'Living Rocks' or 'Living Stones.' I'm sorry to hear you lost your Lithops. I had ordered a couple online years ago, but they arrived damaged and the seller refused to replace. I've never tried again because I read a lot about how they only need water at certain times of the year (I think it has something to do with when they're shedding their skin?). I'm not good with things that... finicky lol. I believe 'Split Rocks' are a little less strict about their watering requirements.
