Cactus ID and Advice

Please note that I have this cactus since two years. It was inside by window for more than a year. Since 2 months, I have placed it on balcony getting afternoon sun and south west side. It has grown 2 times taller and broader. The stems need support otherwise droop. I would like to know the type and curious why there are white patches on the stems and one of them has turned very pale light green. It is watered once a week. Temperature in May, June, July will range from 95 - 113F as location is in Middle East.

It is an optunia, and I thinks it needs more trimming, and you can root the cuttings..

Yes, definitely an Opuntia, I believe it is O. monacantha. This could be the variegated form, which would account for the white patches.

It looks like it became etiolated from being inside with lower light. You can trim it back a lot, and take as many cuttings as you like. It should thrive on the balcony in your climate.

Don't water a plant on a set schedule, water it when it is dry. This may vary depending on the weather conditions. Good luck with it.

Thanks for the identification. I can cut the stems any where to trim it?

You could, yes. Particularly in this case where the segments are so long.
