How big is that bloom?
Not sure about the color change on the noto. I know with roses, mineral content and ph in soil can change color and scent.
I have magenta roses that open in the high heat a pale pink.

Yes, there are apricot highlights and this flower was 5". This flower looks different than the one on the Schick home page. That picture is much more yellow than mine. The flower is supposed last longer and have a musky smell. I didn't experience that; the flower already started to droop in the afternoon and I didn't notice any smell at all. I typed the name wrong; it's actually Charlemagne but you can't edit the subject line :-(

I water my plants with vinegar water, so I wonder if that's what caused the flower color change in the Notocactus?

The full wavy shape is quite arresting. In this pic it looks almost butterscotch. It is a beautiful.
Are you using vinegar to mediate the hard water?
I'm no chemist, but, I would suspect it has something to do with it.

I'm using vinegar to lower the pH.

Can't say I understand it, but I've read a few articles about it and started using it last year and I think it has had a positive affect. I'm really just guessing at this point on how much to use until I get a reliable pH meter.

There also has been discussion concerning Ammonium sulfate as a fertilizer, but again I'm hesitant to use it until I know what the pH of my water really is. Here is a article discussing it.
