broken crassula portulacaria

Hi, I have a small Crassula portulacaria that I have had for about a month and a half. It was just starting to grow new leaves. I just saw a squirrel playing with it , and then it snapped off one of the two stems! It is still connected, but only just barely. I do not want to remove the stem, because the plant only has 2, and one of them was broken off near the bottom some time before bought it! If I remove the stem, the plant will only be about an inch or two tall and barely have any leaves. Should I keep the broken limb on and see if it will heal, or if it will not heal, then what should I do!? I really am upset because if the limb is removed from the cut on up, the plant will be so much shorter, and it will take months, maybe years, for it to grow back to it's original height! What should I do!?
