I've never heard of hyper tufa before but that looks very nice (I like the end result as well). And the H. truncata looks like it's a perfect fit!

I've been thinking about experimenting with hypertufa -- there's a whole hypertufa forum on here. Lots of different recipes and opinions on them out there.

Violet~ Here at garden web is where I learned about it.

Planto~ they are basically light weight cement pots. I think mine was made with portland cement, spag. moss and perlite.

I am waiting until fall to try again, in our summer heat they will cure too fast I think.

I can see the cement, but would have never guessed that perlite and sphagnum moss were ingredients.

It's so nice that you have a hobby you can share with your son (one that he also enjoys).

These pots are funny! They are 1/4 of the weight of a terra cotta the same size. lol..

Yes, I am lucky we share hobby's! He's an only child, so at times it was hard to keep him busy. lol.

From the time he could crawl, we worked the garden together, he has helped hand raise birds, crafts of all kinds, he's currently learning and enjoying working with polymer clay! I'm one who has always been strict and limited video games. there's so much more to life!

Next month we will be joining our local Cactus and succulent club! I can hardly wait!

Wow, even though they're made from concrete? Crazy!

I wonder if he will go into Botany or something related when he gets older.

I wish we had such a club around here.

Aww, I'm so jealous. My parents always emphasized their own lack of a green thumb-- so while I had several periods of LETS START A GARDEN they didn't ever end successfully. I remember when I was young, we had some bowls of cacti that we abused horribly, but I got really into the idea of taking care of them.

Love those truncatas in all their forms! Looks like your plant may need to be buried a bit deeper, as you can see from the paler part of the base that's been exposed. They can actually take quite a bit of sun (even in Tucson) but are much deeper down in habitat. That's a nice, natural looking pot you've made for it.
