Help with Agave ID

I picked this guy up at HD today. It's in a 2.5 qt pot (peat, of course!). The tag says Agave 'Confederate Rose' and where they usually put the scientific name, it say Agave ssp. The tag also says it will grow to 2-3 feet high and wide. Other, rather battered, plants like this one had pups growing.

Well - I can't find anything specific on an Agave of this name. I read that it is A. parrasana or A. wislinzeni. These plants are different in sizes and that is my problem. I have 2 different places for the plant, but if it stays small, about 8-10 inches, it will be swallowed up by one area, but look quite nice in another.

What I really need, if a definitive ID is not possible, is a ballpark idea of how large it will get. Thanks!!

A. 'Confederate Rose' looks right to me, and that's about as far as you're likely to get. These are tiny, quite tender, and invasive offsetters. It is definitely not A. parrasana, and "A. wislinzeni" is an invalid nomen. It may be some form of the highly variable A. isthmensis or an A. isthmensis hybrid, and is probably best tagged 'A. aff. isthmensis', if A. 'Confederate Rose' doesn't float your boat.

Well the name 'Confederate Rose' work great for me, since hubby is from Mississippi. I'll tell him I bought this plant for him!

Thanks for clearing up the size difference. It sounds like this won't work where I want to plant it, but I do have another good place. I want a medium sized Agave, around 3 foot. I can plant an A. desmettiana. I have plenty of pups. I was just looking for something different and there sure isn't much selection around here.

There may still be a spot for this plant out back. I am working my way around the house pulling out the old worn out typical stuff they use for Florida landscape. Here's an area I have finished.
