Mistaken Identity

I bought this last year at Home Depot, in a mislabeled container. The cylindrical segments of this plant are quite fragile, breaking away from the plant very easily. There was a red "straw flower" type bloom on it that closed when water touched it. The bloom persisted through the winter. If anybody can steer me to some accurate info on this, I would appreciate it very much!

RE: Mistaken Identity

That's Mammillaria gracilis var. fragilis, aka 'Thimble Cactus.'

RE: Mistaken Identity

The bloom persisted because it is not a cactus flower. The flowers on this plant are small white or off-white. It is also sold under the name of Arizona Snow Cap.

RE: Mistaken Identity

That's not a kitten, it's a cactus!
