I was doing some shopping at a local nursery and simply asked if they had any specimen sized succulents. To my surprise I was told to follow a saleswoman around to one of there private greenhouses where they keep all of their "mother" plants, usually not for sale. I asked if they would be willing to sell me one of their portulacaria afras. They said that all of their ports had been killed from the brutal winter but they had one left and that if I wanted it they would let it go to someone who will appreciate it. Super excited I went to check out and they only wanted 5.99 for it! I very surprised that they would let it go for so cheap. With a ton of thanks I left very happy. It was terribly root bound with roots wrapping around the trunk so I did some root pruning and repotted it. It stands about 20" tall, with some great shape.
