Acronyms-terms used here-for FAQ

Update: I can't change the thread title, but making changes here~
Acronyms, terminology/coined phrases & initiators of abbreviated phrases used often on this forum~for FAQ

Since I use abbreviation of phrases & acronyms quite often here, figured I’d start the “list” for the FAQ section. Everyone is welcome to add ones they use or think of, or see we’re missing. Remember, keep it clean! I know there are many I pondered about. Sometimes I gave in & ASKED! =) I will edit the list, as suggestions are made. I will NOT add ones not used often.

I am not including abbreviations, like those used in texting, like “abt” or "ur". Peeps (people) should be able to figure out what they mean.

Terms used:

(I believe I was the one who coined the 1st four)
Cart-jumpers = plants that made it into your cart while shopping (you had NOTHING to do with it, or so I tell my hubby)
Pokeys = cactus with spines, or the spines on the cactus
California tan = grown hard, coloring up plants by being “grown hard”-see below)
Sux = succulents
Grown hard = lots of sun, very little water (stressed/neglected, not fussed over)
Glufer = strawflowers glued onto cactus
Fatties (or fat plants) : Succulent plants that have a caudex and/or able to form a caudex (with a thicker base or trunk)

Some Acronyms & many initiators for abbreviated phrases: (Let’s see if I can get them in alpha order!)

    Hi RoRo,

Thanks much for taking the initiative to start this.

    John,

Are those actually in use here or are you just inventing them now (since I haven't seen any of yours used on here)? Maybe we can omit nasty/snarky ones like your 'SIS'?

and another couple I had to ask about:

IIRC = If I recall correctly

YMMV = Your mileage may vary

ROFL at you guys & gals!

Okay, I have some editing to do...(give me a few minutes)...some of the suggestions will NOT be added to the list...but we're getting good chuckles out of them. Thanks for those!! If they are USED REGULARLY on the forum, I will add them. =)

It has been brought to my attention (& I will also edit my beginning post) ~that Acronym is not the correct term for what we have here. I have been edumacated (JK-just kidding, I know it is "educated") ~thanks, Jeff! Technically, an acronym is a pronounceable word made up of the first letters of other words. But, as things go on the Internet, I have found over the years many sites giving lists of "Acronyms" on the Internet that really aren't. I also understand now these things we've been using are really initiators of abbreviated phrases.

So, we are making a list of abbreviated phrases...with a few acronyms thrown in (like PIG)!!

Had me LOL right away, John! Thanks for the additions, Karen & Notolover. They will be added ASAP. I thought of a few more as well...& some of these fun ones made me think of even others I had forgotten! I, too, am curious about that one, Ryan. Karen...he made you ask!! :D Okay, look for changes soon.

TIHWDI - This is how we do it (#3 in a Google search)

    IME - in my experience

Thanks, RoRo, for the hat-tip. It may be meaningless to some, but I'm not some, and you wouldn't want me that way anyway.

    Oops, some more...caught me editing.

Big hat tip to you Jeff, for knowing the difference! I would've never thought to check! I like to KNOW. It's my LSNFT item! Thanks again!

Okay, I have to ask..does anyone here USE that TIHWDI...or plan to use it often? Glad you explained it, so I wouldn't have to go look up the meaning. =) I have 3 post researches going on simultaneously. One more would break this camel's back!

    One hump or two?

No, Ro, I don't think it's needing inclusion - a certain someone was reaching out for help with his jade plant and he was being shy about it, too, for fear I would be mean.

WWJD = What Would Jeff Do?

  • mrlike2u

IMO = in my observation, often used by me if and when I have a same plant OBSERVATION from both past and present times

WWJD is subject to WEJWTD ( WHAT EVER JEFF WANTS TO DO ) After all he is an adult.
WIWD ( what I would do) is IMO the drainage holes of a container and not have to drill them.
