It does look like a funny little pup; could turn out nice. I think the wire is a great idea since you probably want to get some size on it by leaving it PIG.

I'll probably pull it up after 3-4 more leaves. Unlike many Agaves, this has not been a plant to divert much in the way of resources toward its pups, the largest pup in front is about three years old. But then I wonder if it can survive on its own with so little chlorophyll at its disposal. If it can, I'd bet it grows slow as molasses.

In any case, this is a new experience for me, it will be fun to see how it develops.

I recently pulled 7 pups off a desmettiana & one of them was variegated. Hope I can keep it alive. One pup croaked (probably helped by our dogs) & another succumbed to snail chomping (argh).

Nice. Maybe the pups would grow faster if separated from mom. Force them to grow their own root system. You can see what kind of mom I am. Drop 'em and leave 'em. That is what my mom used to say.

It's well protected now, I'll leave it be for a while, it seems to be doing pretty well. It's out of range of any dripper, so I'll hand-water. I posted this pic on three different forums, and apparently, no one has seen anything like it. I knew it was unusual, but I didn't think unprecedented. My retirement may be imminent. ;-)

I had a yucca produce all yellow offsets last year. No survivors. Yours has got a little green in it so it might survive. And if it does Ill be biding on it!

I personally like the daughter / son of Ol' Yeller, but it's more yeller than the parent and I think it will maintain that oddity course, and I'd wager a plant on that, an 'Oddity'.

@ chadec: How big did they get? Were they still attached when they bought it? That's a nice sized leaf my guy has for its very first leaf. Makes me think it might have a chance.

GS, my yucca was about 8" when I potted it. It lived another month then just gave up.

Funny little pup is growing at a snail's pace, but growing nonetheless. A new development, the pup is pupping, and it's pupping true. This could be an exciting development if they prove viable. At some point, I'll need to separate from mama and see if they survive...

now that is exciting.
