I have this plant to and think it's one of the better ones out there. I have two one on the south side of the house and one in a bed on the north side. They both went through a very cold winter here in north Louisiana with no cold damage. But I did damage mine with over fertilizing. The hose end type is what I was using. I believe it was miracle grow. When I use it in the future I will wash the fertilizer out of the center. I don't believe your winter is anything near what I have here.

Bob thanks for the no fertilization tip. I don't think I fertilized them. The only fertilization they got was the Surestart mixed into soil when I planted these 2 yrs ago. For sure now I will not fertile them. I live up in the foot hills of the Sierra Mts, burbs of Sacramento. Last winter there were 2 wks of Have your bright star flowered? And re-shooted? What to do with the double shoots? I would like to keep plant as single rosette b/c of my garden design.

I believe it was the fertilizer standing in the center of the plant that burned mine. I wouldn't worry much about in ground fertilizing.
One of my plants bloomed but gust replaced itself. I suppose you could cut out the smaller plant in the center but I would be very careful doing it. The center is very tender and it would be easy to damage.
