Whatever measures you take and work, as long as the soil doesn't stay wet where root rot occurs, you'll be fine. I just started using a grit mix this month that the water drains out as fast as it goes in. It's kind of cool. Maybe look into that, see if that might be something to do next year or some time. Drainage is the key from what everyone says.
