I really do think it's just an aloe vera, but the fact the lady kept calling it a Yucca perturbs me.

They appear to be the same Aloe vera. They are definitely NOT Yucca, the lady is simply mistaken.

I don't think either one is Aloe vera, but that both are the Aloe hybrid sometimes called Chinese Aloe. Agree w/PG, definitely not any kind of Yucca. These look like the "burn" Aloes used for light skin burns.

I've never heard of Chinese aloe before-but are these more in line with the medicinal aloes for sunburns and other skin ailments?

The species called Aloe vera is a green plant with hard teeth on the edges. Flowers are yellow. Your plants have the spots, the soft teeth and rarely if ever bloom.

That said, I am far from an expert and have found that some people use several names as synonyms (A. barbadensis, for instance). Genetic studies have not shed much light on the name, but most agree that the Aloe vera that you have does not exist in the wild at this time, and maybe never did. Enjoy your plants, whatever their names. The only thing you can bet on is that neither one is a Yucca.

Wow! So this isn't even a true Aloe, but just a hybrid-although if it can soothe burns, it's still useful to me.. But I'll have to get a true Aloe Vera at some point.
