Haha... I'm afraid to ask. Between the spray painted succulents and cacti and the glued flowers, I'm waiting for a glow in the dark cactus.

Dollars to donuts what your friend saw were painted cacti/succulents. (Yes, I said "painted".) It is apparently the latest marketing gimmick. Below is a link to a thread wherein these monstrosities were discussed (and caused much disgust).

I hadn't seen those before. That's nasty! I guess marketing is everything. I hate the fluorescent fish also!

There's one cactus I'd like to add to my collection, a Rebutia muscula, but everytime I see it in town, it's been spray painted orange. I just might have to order one online one day. How annoying.

One plant that I was thinking of that fits that description (without the paint haha) is the Firesticks Pencil Bush aka Euphorbia tirucalli Firesticks. Not sure if this is what you are looking for.

Oh man.. They may have been painted. Thats a real shame! The pictures she had on her phone were really pretty but not clear enough to tell.
I have a cute little cactus in my windowsill my aunt gave me for my birthday, but when she bought it she didn't know the pink blooms on it were attached with hot glue. Ive had it for three years now and I still cant get all the gunk off :(

I am thinking the same as Trickster, it's probably Firestick pencil cactus.

OHH, I think that the orange-ish cactus name is Gymnocalycium mihanovichii.
