Here is a link to my large obesum I've been working on. Starting to take shape. Should make a very nice plant in a few years.

Norman, I think you know that it is spectacular already. It has a superb form. I look forward to seeing it a more dramatic pot.

    z9b CA,

All it is right now is a foundation with the studs and trusses in place. :-)

Once I get a nice veneer and a good roof on it, it will be that spectacular plant you think you already see.

    Thanks Brad. :-)

    Hi Randy,
I love it's new look and can't wait to see what pot you've picked out to be it's new home.

    Thanks everyone.

The new pot is being thrown by Chuck Iker and will be a bigger version of this 10 1/2" x 1 7/8" round.

An amusing form, Randy. Can't really explain why, but especially in that last pic, it struck me as a chubby "plant man" with his mug o'beer sitting next to him I like it!

Btw, in the pic where the leaves had filled out, what are the ?rods? sticking out from amongst the leaves? Are they something you use to help 'guide' the branches?

    Hi Paul,

A few have used the term pornographic. I'll take amusing. :-)

The protruding offenders are seed pods.

    Randy,
I was going to ask what size the plant was but since you posted the pot size I don't need to. Iker has some nice pots and reasonable prices; how long does it take to get a pot once you order it?

Have you ever done any work with swazicum? I have one I going to chop up.

    Keith,

The pot he is making will be in the 14" x 3" range. It's drying now. Told me it took 18 lbs of clay.

It will be snug. The plant is about 11" at the soil line.

It depends on how busy he is. Does a lot of custom stuff. Made me a batch of pots last summer and had them to me in about 2 weeks.

Probably be about the same turn around on this one with the drying time involved.

I have some swazicum hybrids. Haven't done too much to them yet.

Wow! That's a lot of clay! MAy be snug but it will look better than one that is a couple of inches wider. Why the choice of round vs. oval?

I've done about 15lbs and the pot is ready to bisque fired, took about 3wks to dry so I could avoid any cracking.

    Keith,

I much prefer the round with a lot of plants. If the front of the plant changes slightly because of pruning or better branching, You are not at a disadvantage like you would be with an oval.

Nothing more frustrating than having a tree 5 or 10 degrees out of kilter viewing wise because of an oval pot after you've done some work on it that has changed the front.

I tip pruned and defoliated the upper part of the plant a few days ago to encourage more branching.

Oh yeah....I'd say those are the best roots yet....and I'm a great lover of roots ;)

That beefy-looking pot is great - and so is the off-centered staging.
    Thanks for the pic!

Very nice Randy. You made an excellent choice with that pot. Strong and commanding enough to hold its own against such an impressive plant, but subdued enough to let the plant be the center of attention.

Talk about a plant that looks animal or alien life formish-dash of some squat star wars bar creature.
Those are the best looking. Better imo, than just pine tree traditional.
