First of all, don't ask people at big box stores for care instructions, because the ugly truth is most of them don't know much about cactus and succulent. 80% of them when I ask if they have succulent, they'd ask me what that is.
I'm not familiar with this plant but I think it is a type of jade plant. Cactus/succulent soil is okay but you need to mix it with things like perlite to provide even better drainage. Right now it looks like the soil is really dry and hard. I would pot it to a better soil mix and give it some sun and see how it goes from there.

Smaller container, LOTS of perlite if you're going to use that kind of potting mix, and more sunlight.

If in the picture is all you've got left at the moment, I would say a 4" pot is plenty for now. Are these fast growing?

okay. Its in a 4 inch pot that is now mixed with perlite. It seemed fast growing when I brought it home, about an inch in a weeks time on all three shoots. Sorry, I am new to plant-keeping and don't quite know what everything is called.

It's quite a slow plant, especially compared to the straight green form.
