The soil is too heavy and water retentive, and it looks like you have no drain hole in the pot. So yes it could be too much water. Succulents should be in a fast draining potting mix with less organic matter, and must always have a hole for drainage. Also they grow best in high light, such as a south facing window.

Thanks guys! The cups do have holes drilled for draining, but I'll try some different soil!

Also, once a week could be too much depending on your climate. I water about every 3 weeks in winter when my plants are inside, and about every 1-2 weeks when they're outside in summer (and I live in one of the top 20 driest cities in the U.S.)

I've mixed thoughts refferacing the inner and outer ceramic glazing of the coffee cup.

they work but drilled drainage " holes on the bottom " may need to be increased ? or more.

It's a bit wet now and entire plant and roots should come out easy for you, set the entire soil and plant on news paper with news paper on a tray allowing some dry time ( over night) as you prep the looser (airy) suggested soil.
Watering may take time for you ( climate area, air ect..) to get use to. Size of it and seeming that you might want to to but will ask Are you indoor window sill growing all season ?
